The Fear
(or the white man’s lament)
The fear is real for the white man
Embedded in, not so much a
Lack of knowledge
Of their history
But in that they know the
Horror of it
They say the same of women
White men in power fear women
But it’s not the same
Just ask a woman
Who’s bold, and black
Who’s told, do what you’re told
Yes it matters – irrational fear
Makes matters much worse
The more you push, the worse –
Do they fear because they
Fear their cherished maxim
Do unto others…
Do they fear what they have done
Will be done to them?
If so, “cool” white men, free like me
Have nothing to fear
Except maybe, being white
Oh no! That’s giving me quite a fright!
What is the white man’s plea?
“Mama don’t you see
if men like me
were treated like them
then I do so fear
just… to be me!”
Come on my brothers stop blaming them
It’s not them, it’s us
It’s our time to see
Our fear is history
It’s our time to march arm in arm
Time to fight our bigotry.
